Weekly Homework

  • Think in English!

  • Talk in English as much as possible! Talk to your homestay family, classmates (Even if they speak your language, try and speak in English), Camosun staff, store employees, etc.

  • Self-Study Links: https://auroraenglish.wixsite.com/english/elt-website-links

  • You need to write about your adventures in Victoria each night. You should write about ten sentences. You will hand it in Thursday. Please proofread it carefully. You can take your journal back to Japan and reflect later on all of your wonderful adventures.

  • Poster Presentation: Your poster presentation is Friday, February 27.

Wednesday, February 18, CHW 105: 9-12

1) Introductions: Introduce yourself to your group. You can use some of the information from the get-to-know-you activity we did in class.

2) Think in English! You can think in English on the bus, walking, in bed... anywhere!

3) Speaking: Talk to your homestay family as much as possible! You can talk about things in your coursebook.

4) Journal: Write ten sentences about your day. Think about 5W+H (who, what, when, where, why and how). Use your five senses (Sight, touch, taste, smell and hearing). These two weeks will go by quickly, and writing in your journal is a great way to remember all the great things you see and do! It is due Thursday.

5) Group Agreements: What do we need to do to make this experience in Victoria the best it can be? How can we work together to succeed?

6) Topics: What topics do you want to talk about on this course? We will start with with food for the next few days.

7) Food: Can you say what you ate today? If not, look up the words in English.

8) Make your name sign. You can decorate it with stickers! :)

Thursday, February 19, CBA 285: 1-4

You did so well practising your speaking on Wednesday! I hope you can speak with your homestay family and friends on the afternoon activities and at lunch! You need to bring your journals so I can check them this weekend.

1) Introductions: We will practice introductions again and include information about food (favourite type of food, favourite restaurant, etc.) with five people.

2) Food Research: You need to tell us three interesting things about your data from your class research on Wednesday.

3) Poster Presentation: Start to work on your hobby poster presentation fro next Friday.

4) Victoria's Newest Restaurant: Think about which restaurant Victoria needs! Location? Type of food? Menu? Decor/interior design? Theme? Cost? Target market/audience? We will work on this together in small groups tomorrow.

5) Talk to everyone! Have fun! Don't worry about being perfect -- talk in English to make new friends and learn new things!

Monday, February 23: CBA 235

I hope you had a great time at the Indigenous workshop, the hockey game and with your friends and homestay family this weekend!

1) Journals: You need to have written in your journals.

2) Poster Presentations: Work on your poster for Friday's presentation. You can practice in front of your homestay family. It is not a normal presentation. People will come up to your poster and ask you about your hobby, so you need to be able to talk comfortably about your hobby. Try and guess/predict what questions the audience will ask you and think of how you will answer the question.

4) Phone Photo Share: You need to bring one photo from your weekend and talk about it for one minute.

4) Extra Grammar and Language Practice: This is a link to my website with my favourite resources. https://auroraenglish.wixsite.com/english/elt-website-links

Tuesday, February 24: CHW 105

1) Please work on your journals and poster presentations!

2) You need to practice for your Victoria CELA 2027 presentation tomorrow. Each AA and BB team will speak for 2 minutes. Then, they will answer questions.

Wednesday, February 25: 9-12: CBA 285 and 1-4 CBA 213

1) You need to be ready to record your travel ad at 9 am. We will listen together after.

2) Best Vacation Mini-Presentation: You need to prepare a 1-2 minute presentation about your favourite vacation that you went on. Think about 5W+H. What did you do? See? Eat? Why was it special?

3) Bring your poster for our final poster presentation. We will work on our presentation for the last hour of class.

4) Our new topic for tomorrow is movies. What is your favourite movie? Think about it in English!

Thursday, February 26: CHW 105

1) Please give me your two pages of journals.

2) Work on your poster presentation for Friday.

3) You need to do your 1-2 minute presentations about a Japanese celebration.

4) Practice your culture questions to ask the newcomer Camosun students in class today at 11:30.
