Creative Literature Activities

Share your drawing, painting, photograph, collage or other art in the Padlet below.

You can also do some creative writing and write a poem. You could write a limerick, haiku or free verse poem.

Other ideas:

Create a five-song playlist for a character in the novel/play or an author/poet or playwright. Write one sentence for each song explaining why it suits them/their situation.

Create four tweets/Instagram stories/Facebook posts from one character based on events in a chapter/act. Use modern informal language related to technology such as acronyms as well as emojis.

Plan a dream holiday for a character from the novel or play, or an author/poet/playwright and explain why it would suit them. Where would they go? Who with? For how long? Hotel? Activities? Write one paragraph.

Write a six-word title, prequel/sequel and haiku (poem with three lines: 5 syllables, 7 syllables and 5 syllables) for the novel/play.

If a character/author/poet/playwright were a color, city or animal what would they be? If they could travel anywhere/buy anything/meet anyone/have any meal/have any occupation, etc. what would it be? Choose five or create your own and explain why.

There are also many Anne movies and TV shows.

For each chapter, you need to do an oral summary (approximately 30-45 seconds), prepare for the class discussion, and if you like, do one of the creative literature activities on the Padlet.

Week One: May 15: Chapters 1-3

1) Describe the setting: geographical (country, town, location in country), historical (century, decade and cultural time period) and physical (indoors/outdoors, house, weather, other?). Contrast it with your situation.

2) What is Anne’s attitude toward life and the world? Think about her behavior, attitude and reactions to events. Do you agree? Why/why not?

 3) What does Anne’s naming of places tell us about her? What is one place name that you like? Do you have any creative place names for your neighborhood, city or country?

 4) What is Anne’s family history? Give a timeline of her life. Are there any similarities to your life, anyone you know or another work of fiction?

5) What is your favourite lines/section of this week's reading? Why?

Week Two: May 22: Chapters 4-6

1) What are some key themes in the novel so far? For example, belonging and family, change and adaptation, perspective and optimism, etc. Which theme resonates with you most? Why? How is it explored in the novel? Have you noticed any other themes?

2) Describe Anne (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual). Does she remind you of anyone you know or any other characters in fiction or films? What are her strengths of character and weaknesses?
